New Starter pathway

STEP AHEAD

Self-led development alongside your RAISE target.

STEP AHEAD comes after your sign-off visit, straight from STEP ON or after STEP UP. You have a RAISE target, often the Amber area from your sign-off visit, and you lead your own development.

Your Innovator moves from showing you to coaching you: you bring the question, the evidence and the plan, and they challenge your thinking.

It runs alongside the RAISE cycle for the rest of the year. Space any STEP visit well away from your RAISE visits, so you have time to act on feedback.

Your stages

Take the stages in order. Your Innovator opens each one with you. Swipe or scroll along to see them all.

  1. Stage 1Up next

    Review & Plan

    20 mins

Turn your RAISE target into a goal you can work on and see progress against.

  2. Stage 2

    Development Visit: PowerEd

    30 mins

Predict what PowerEd will say, record a lesson, then compare. Where you were wrong is where the learning is.

  3. Stage 3

    See It in Practice

    30 mins

Watch a colleague for 15 to 20 minutes with a precise question about your target. Try another department.

  4. Stage 4

    Collaborative Planning

    30 mins

Bring a draft plan and ask your Innovator to challenge the reasons behind it.

  5. Stage 5

    Try Something New

    20 mins

Run a small experiment with one WalkThru, then decide to keep it, adapt it or drop it.

  6. Stage 6

    Feedback & Development

    20 mins

Put your evidence together, from learners, PowerEd and your Innovator, and look for the pattern.

  7. Stage 7

    Follow-Up Visit: In Person

    20 mins

A visit you lead: you choose the focus, explain what you are trying, and decide what to do with the feedback.

  8. Stage 8

    Looking Ahead

    30 mins

Plan your next six months, so the habit carries on after STEP.
