STEP ON

Your first 10 to 12 weeks: the foundations of teaching.

  • 15 to 45 min a stage
  • The rest happens in your own lessons

  2. Sign-off visit
  3. STEP AHEAD or STEP UP

Neither outcome is a judgement of you as a teacher.

Your stages

Take the stages in order. Your Innovator opens each one with you. Swipe or scroll along to see them all.

  1. Stage 1Up next

    Welcome & Self-Assessment

    25 mins

Tell us where you're starting from, so your Innovator knows where to begin.

  2. Stage 2

    Systems Training

    45 mins

Get the college systems right in your first fortnight, so admin does not eat into your teaching and no learner slips through.

  3. Stage 3

    Teaching and Inclusion

    60 mins

One simple shape for every lesson, so every learner knows where they are and how far they have come.

  4. Stage 4

    Visit 1

    30 mins

Get ready for Visit 1, a normal lesson seen by your Innovator, and compare the feedback with your own view.

  5. Stage 5

    Getting and giving feedback

    40 mins

Turn your Visit 1 feedback into 2 focus points, and give your learners feedback they act on.

  6. Stage 6

    Digital Tools

    45 mins

Use one digital tool to solve one teaching problem. Start with the problem, not the tool.

  7. Stage 7

    Putting It Into Practice

    15 mins

Use your 2 focus points in every lesson for three weeks, until it happens without thinking. Once in that time, team teach or watch a colleague.

  8. Stage 8

    Sign-Off Visit

    30 mins

Your Innovator visits a lesson to decide your next step. It asks one question: would the ordinary RAISE cycle be enough support from here, or would more focused mentoring help first?

  9. Stage 9

    Review & Reflection

    30 mins

Look back at your starting point, agree your outcome from the sign-off visit, and set up what comes next.
